Despite a 2–1 defeat in the first leg in Congo against Maniema Union, the Red and Black showed great character and determination to turn things around. Thanks to their 1–0 victory in the second leg at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962, and the crucial away goal, USM Alger secured a well-deserved place in the final four.
